The baking competition celebrates the role that school caterers have in inspiring and developing their pupil’s cooking skills and their understanding of where the food on their plates comes from.  At this year’s live baking final Professor Tanya Byron will join the competition judging panel to home in on the fact that this competition is a fantastic way to increase children’s confidence. A chartered clinical psychologist, Tanya has real expertise in this area, and Premier Foods wants to ensure that the McDougalls baking competition continues to remain relevant and gives children a real boost.

On Wednesday 10th July, a Mind charity representative will be leading a one-hour session with school caterers, running exercises on how best to deal with children’s confidence in the kitchen. Before the live bake off on 11th July, pupils from the five shortlisted schools will also be taking part in a workshop, which will involve resilience training to help relax the pupils and ensure they feel comfortable, confident and excited for the final ahead. To book your place on the workshop for school caterers, complete the quick booking form on the Premier Foods website.

Visitors to the Premier Foods stand won’t go hungry as the education team has planned a whole day of tasting opportunities on Thursday 11th July. They are serving up toasted teacakes for breakfast, before showcasing the winning dishes from Steven Cross, LACA School Chef of the Year for lunch and then offering afternoon tea later in the day. The team will be showcasing the extensive McDougalls range on the stand and revealing how the majority of the range already hits the Public Health England Calorie and Sugar 2020 targets.

At the LACA Annual Awards for Excellence, Premier Foods has been shortlisted for the Supplier of the Year Award. Sarah Robb, foodservice marketing manager at Premier Foods said: “Our team always strives to be more than a supplier and we put the customer at the heart of everything we do, regularly exploring how we can identify and help overcome challenges.  We offer practical advice and convenient products as well as working closely with the wider industry to celebrate the true talent that this sector has to offer”.
